Kiwanis School Patrol Program

The first school patrol group was formed over 75 years ago, in 1936, by a teacher in Winnipeg named Louise Staples. Since that time thousands of children have taken their posts every day, in all kinds of weather, in order to keep their classmates safe as they walk to and from school.

The Kiwanis Club of Victoria has supported the school patrol program for over 40 years. This year there are 500+ students from 19 schools in 2 school districts currently participating in the program. Each school has an assigned officer from the local police force who acts as a School Liason. Every week the Kiwanis Club of Victoria invites a liason officer from a different school to select a few children to recognize for their efforts. Each patroller is given a certificate and a badge as well as a free lunch and an hour away from school.

The school patrol patrol program teaches students about responsibility and time management. The time spent on patrol helps students learn about valuable leadership skills.
